The project “Pixel twins – integrating Earth’s surface into the internet of things” aims at defining small fragments of the earth’s surface (“pixels”) as identifiable and addressable IoT objects. Earth Observation Data by ESA will be integrated with the data from local sensors into an open-source platform using Fiware.
Currently, this project is being implemented with the first selected use case, Smart Farming. Once implemented, users will be able to monitor the agricultural field for each Pixel they are interested in, even on cloudy days because of continuous IoT data.
The potential of such a system is as versatile as it is sustainable, and we have planned several other use cases once the first use case has been implemented.
