REWIRE Smart Robotics for Industrial Remanufacturing

Rewire
Goal: To double the volume of recycled components in the target industries.

The Horizon Europe project REWIRE aims to make the industrial remanufacturing of products and components significantly more efficient, scalable, and trustworthy. The focus is on combining smart robotics solutions, digital twins, AI-based decision support, non-destructive testing, and end-to-end traceability. The goal is to avoid prematurely scrapping components, but rather to evaluate their condition based on data, determine suitable remanufacturing routes, and ensure their reuse on an industrial scale.
The approach is being validated in three demonstrators from the construction machinery, automotive, and electric drive technology sectors. In doing so, REWIRE addresses key challenges of the circular economy: lower material consumption, reduced CO₂ emissions, higher resource efficiency, and traceable quality of remanufactured products.
LCM plays a central role in the project by defining and evaluating sustainability and impact KPIs. In addition, LCM contributes its expertise in digital modeling, simulation, and SyMSpace to enable the evaluation of remanufacturing decisions based on energy, CO₂, material, and process metrics. Another focus is on simulation-based verification, compliance, and the provision of traceable evidence for subsequent demonstration, validation, and sustainability reporting.
