Optimized capacity planning in production with DisDAQ

Flexible mobile data collection in the production hall

Production capacity and the use of resources (personnel, plant utilisation, etc.) can be significantly improved in production lines with a high proportion of manual work steps or for highly customizable products by employing smart digitalization and modelling.

Our corporate partner ELK Fertighaus GmbH produces highly customizable prefabricated houses whose exterior and interior walls are prefabricated in the factory. The use of resources varies greatly from wall to wall. Utilizing the DisDAQ modular measuring system, LCM has created a flexible demonstrator that can be used to automatically measure the actual throughput times of the walls in production. As part of a funded project in collaboration with the Institute of Production Management and Logistics (University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, BOKU), a digital twin of the production line is being trained based on this data, among other things, which enables optimal resource planning even for highly customizable walls.

Requirements

  • Automated acquisition of throughput times along the production line
  • Simple retrofitting of the demonstrator in existing production
  • Development of a suitable database for the optimization of the required evaluation algorithms

Solution

  • Data acquisition: Measurement of throughput time with passive RFID tags at 10 measurement points along the production line during ongoing production
  • Cloud connection via relay station
  • Wireless connection of each measurement point to the relay station
  • Flexible design, easy to expand with additional measurement points
  • Evaluation: Individual evaluation per workbench
