ESA magnetic brake

Post Magnet brake research project

The “Magnetic Brake 2” project is developing a high-resolution, contactless brake for space actuators that enables high-precision positioning of antennas, thrusters and solar panels.

Contactless operation prevents the risk of cold welding or clogging and thus increases the reliability of critical space components.

Project partners

LCM is researching a new electromagnetic principle and incorporating this into the design of the magnetic brake, which will then be built by IIES and tested by AAC.
