Together with Voith and ELIN Motoren, the Linz Center of Mechatronics (LCM) has developed the electrified Voith-Schneider-Propeller (eVSP). This innovative propulsion solution significantly improves the maneuverability of ships and enables resource-saving positioning even in difficult conditions.
The electric motor was optimized using the LCM software “SyMSpace” to maximize efficiency and performance. The eVSP dispenses with gear stages, reduces maintenance costs and operates with minimal noise. In the future, the drive will be powered by hydrogen to further reduce emissions. The first major order from Norway shows the great market potential of this technology.
