The EU project “CloudiFacturing” brings together two successful initiatives, namely “CloudFlow” and “cloudSME”. These are, in turn, a combination of High Performance Computing (HPC), computer-assisted tools and Cloud platforms.

The aim of CloudiFacturing to design the production processes of small and medium-sized companies (SMEs) to be as efficient as possible using Cloud/HPC-based models and simulations, thereby enhancing their productivity. Whereas work flows requiring high processing power in production technology were either not technically possible up until now or only executable within several days, in the future these should run a lot faster and up-front costs should be considerably lower.

The technology behind start-ups clesgo (www.clesgo.com) and cloudSME (www.cloudsme.eu) is the cloud-based digital marketplace. This will pave the way for production analyses, enhance production processes and simulate work flows, the goal being to optimise these via real-time support. Moreover, the digital marketplace will offer its users a platform for interaction and collaboration.

Summa summarum aims to bring CloudiFacturing as well as the competitiveness and resource efficiency of SMEs to a whole new level. The quantum leap in terms of performance reduces development times for new products to a minimum and saves costs – resulting in genuine added value for the vision of Industry 4.0.

Meanwhile, over 60 European organisations and 20 transnational experiments are already enjoying the benefits of CloudiFacturing. Participants of the experiments are mainly chosen via two open calls.
