On 09.06.2016, experts of the Linz Center of Mechatronics GmbH (LCM) presented current trends in image processing in the form of specialist presentations and hands-on stations. Together with guests from various companies, the opportunities emerging for the industry were highlighted. An outlook on possible scenarios for image processing in the year 2030 was also offered.

Numerous companies, including AVL, B&R, EBNER Industrieofenbau, Internorm, Keba, Wacker Neuson and many more – used the opportunity to get an overview of current technological developments in the area of image processing. Attendees to the event included development engineers, innovation managers as well as representatives from the manufacturing industry.

LCM presented current research projects and the technology portfolio it has built over the course of strategic development in recent years.

Companies were shown where they need to focus in terms of their image processing projects to prevent a data graveyard from being generated. This is because lucrative added value can only be generated by mastering the art of eliciting actually relevant information from images.

To conclude, the event looked forward to the year 2030. To this end, the results of the open foresight study from the META|TRONIC 2030 business area were projected on to the issue of image processing. The use of artificial intelligence for image processing was discussed, as were the possibilities for image processing by the internet of things and the question of how future image processing technologies are transforming the human-machine interface.
