The European Commission is funding a 29-partner consortium within the H2020 framework program with almost €20 million, which is promoting the development and demonstration of driverless heavy-duty vehicles under rough weather conditions.

The consortium of the AWARD (All Weather Autonomous Real logistics operations and Demonstrations) project has set itself the goal of bringing the implementation of autonomous driving of heavy goods vehicles onto safe and reliable routes. This not only avoids accidents, but also significantly increases the utilization of the vehicles from below 50% on average. This makes our roads safer and helps to protect our environment through reduced emissions.

Building on its expertise in the field of localization and position tracking (tracking), the Linz Center of Mechatronics (LCM) supports the AWARD pilot studies through UWB localization in indoor, outdoor and indoor / outdoor handover situations.
